HOW TO GET TO MONTEROSSO AL MARE

1. By Train (Recommended)

The train is the most convenient and scenic way to reach Monterosso, as cars are not practical in Cinque Terre.

  • From Major Cities: Take a train to La Spezia Centrale (from Florence, Milan, or Pisa). From there, transfer to the Cinque Terre Express, which stops at Monterosso.
  • Travel Times:
    • From Florence: 2.5 hours
    • From Milan: 3 hours
    • From Pisa: 1.5 hours
  • Tips: Book tickets in advance during peak travel seasons, and check schedules for regional train connections.

2. By Car

While driving to Cinque Terre is not ideal due to limited parking and narrow roads, you can drive part of the way and park near Monterosso.

  • Parking Options: Use the large Fegina Parking Lot near the new town or Loreto Parking near the old town.
  • Driving Directions: From La Spezia, follow signs to Monterosso via SP38.
  • Important Note: Leave your car behind and explore the village and Cinque Terre on foot or by train.

3. By Ferry

During the warmer months (April to October), ferries operate between coastal towns and Cinque Terre.

  • From La Spezia: Hop on a ferry that connects to Monterosso and the other Cinque Terre villages.
  • From Other Coastal Towns: Boats run from towns like Portovenere and Levanto.
  • Tip: This option offers breathtaking views of the coastline, perfect for photography enthusiasts.
